After fighting day and night for three weeks we have gotten to Bagdad. There's an old saying that "if you work long enough and hard enough you may be unfortunate enough to get what you go after".
Having essentially won on the battlefield we now have the country but don't know what to do with it and now it looks more like a Democratic Party Convention than any organized society.
It's not the troops fault. They have done their job admirably. It can't be the Presidents fault. His goal was to liberate the country and give it back to the Iraqi people. He's done that. We can't blame the UN. They weren't invited to the party.
Let's blame the French.

Everybody saw Saddams statue tumble off it's pedestal in Bagdad yesterday and nobody is shedding any tears but it does remind me of the old nursery rhyme where "all the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put Humpety Dumpety together again".
As tough as the war may have been and regardless of your opinion on it there was never any question as to the outcome. Now we are dealing with putting a smashed egg back together that doesn't necessarily want to be together and that's a whole 'nother problem.

It's April in New York with Easter coming up. The rest of the country gets showers and flowers. New York gets snow. We get snow for the alter ego holiday of Halloween on the other end of the year and more snow for all of the holidays in between. Even the skiiers have stopped going to the slopes. They're snowed out too.
Saudi Arabia on the other hand could use some snow if only to improve the scenery. If Governor George could come up with a way to move this stuff intact we'd solve New York's economic problems overnight. But so far no takers and no tankers.

As a change from the war tempo, Syracuse won the national basketball championship last night. According to the news this morning some of the fans celebrated by getting drunk, climbing trees (and falling out of them) and setting things on fire in Syracuse. It takes a "real" fan to be able snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
You would think that would be what might happen in Kansas. After all they are the ones who lost. Perhaps they are a little saner in Kansas. Fortunately for the sanctity and well being of the city and the citizenry the football team was not that good last year and next year looks to be just as promising.

I see the Iraqi Information Minister making his usual daily announcement this morning about another crushing American defeat at the hands of Saddam's "Fadeyeen" outside of Bagdad. This time though he made the announcement from the roof of the hotel where all the journalists stay.
Normally he would have given his statement from the Information Ministry in downtown Bagdad but right now his office at the Information Ministry is being used by Private First Class Monica Smith from Peoria, Illinois and apparently he doesn't want to disturb her.

Heard George (the 2nd's) radio address over the weekend. Seems now we've figured out that the war in Iraq is about bringing Democracy to that country. I'm glad we finally got that straight. I was starting to get confused as to why we were there.
`Course the trick is going to be to see what brand of democracy we are bringing. Is it going to be one of those Banana Republic type Democracies where an Electoral Elite from various parts of the country supported by a majority of the ruling party's judges on the national court install Iraq's next president, or is it going to be an American style Democracy?

Been a lot of comments on the news lately being critical of people who don't support the war as not supporting the troops. That's an oxymoron. What everybody wants is to have them back home as soon as possible and in one piece. The disagreement is over the how, the why and the when.

Once this war in Iraq is over George the Second is going to bring Democracy to Iraq, just as soon as he can find a registered Republican with an Arab sounding name to run for President who likes living on the world's biggest beach. No water, just beach.
Right now the only candidate they have been able to come up with is Sheik Donalda al-Rumsfieldi, an arab warlord educated in the West who has been on the staff at the Pentagon. His politics are right and he just might win if he doesn't say anything.

Did you see this fellow al-Hakim on 60 Minutes the other night. He's the Shiite Ayatolla fellow George Bush the First chose to keep out of office after the last Gulf War by letting Saddam Hussein the First go back and crush the rebellion George I encouraged in Southern Iraq. Well, he's back, with a campaign manager and the odds are he's not a registered Republican.

Lot of people wondering why so many Iraqi's are still supporting Saddam Hussein considering he is such an SOB. It's because he is their SOB.
