JOB POSTING

HELP WANTED. Residents of the State of New York are looking for qualified applicants for governor and state legislature. Must be able to add or use a calculator, get things done in a timely manner and be responsible for their actions. Excellent salary, fringe benefits and perks. Previous experience not acceptable.

Identifying characteristics of the job: Cannot get budgets in on time for 20 years costing state taxpayers millions in interest and school budget delays. Create, expand and mandate statewide programs and send the bill to local governments to pay. Limit collection resources available to local municipalities to pay for new mandated services such as increasing sales tax because it is called STATE sales tax and might shift blame from locals to the state. Ignore local government requests to limit mandates and put the locals in their place by expanding programs further when they complain too loudly. Take Federal Aid targeted for county and local municipality relief and keep it to yourself to cover the financial disasters you have created thereby forcing local governments to raise local and school property taxes at astronomical rates year after year and take the heat for your decisions. Notify localities to stop paying into their employees state retirement system so that three years later you can send them a bill for triple the original payment to keep them off balance and in trouble with their own employees. And always smile and say it's all those other guys in Albany that are to blame.

Reason for job posting?

Present candidates are too good at their job.

It appears the President's "Pathway to Peace " in the Holy Land has turned into the "Highway to Hell" just days after he paved the road. The Jews bomb the Palestinians. The Palestinians bomb the Jews . And everybody points fingers saying "that Devil (Jew or Palestinian, take your pick) made me do it". Retaliation seems to be the road everyone is traveling. They've already shown they don't want to live together democratically for a variety of reasons and the President says the Jews and the Palestinians should both have their own country, which I guess makes as much sense as anything else I've heard but the question is "where to put it" because unfortunately they both want the same piece of God-forsaken real estate to themselves. In case you haven't looked at the property, there isn't a maple tree or river deep enough to drown a cat in within the whole infernal country which by the way isn't much bigger than a good sized upstate New York county. It's what a good farmer here would call worthless hard-scrabble land not quite good enough for goats. And the President for his part hasn't offered up any alternatives, like maybe Texas (not that they would take it). So until he comes up with a better plan the solution seems to be bigger guns, bigger bombs and bigger failures.

Hillary's new book is out. Haven't read it but I guess it's selling pretty well. Surprises me to learn that the American people are again interested in reading about government and opinions of political leaders on state, national and foriegn affairs and will plunk down good money to do so. That hasn't happened since the "Federalist Papers" hit the newstands. After all, for a book called "Living History" to effectively compete with the traditional American genre' of "The Star" tabloids, "Reality TV" and "Daytime Soaps" success must either be in the the sophistication of the reader or the nature of the material. If the book had been titled "Bill Done Me Wrong", this would all make sense. Do you suppose the readers are becoming more sophisticated ?

Another US soldier was killed in Iraq yesterday. It getting up to a soldier a day with no end in sight. Perhaps the wisdom of going in without the UN wasn't so wise after all. Unfortunately, I don't think the administration will figure that out until the peacekeeping casualties exceed the warmaking casualties.

Because of concerns about Iraqi public opinion with our "shoot to kill" policy for looters the US government issued a "shoot not to kill" directive to our troops in Iraq last Friday. While I understand the political delimma of shooting supposed civilians and the President's generation grew up with Roy Rogers shooting the gun out of the bad guys hand (so the powers that be think it can be done), shooting a rocket propelled grenade launcher out of the hands of a fanatic with your M16 calls for marksmanship not seen since Annie Oakley. Looks like we're going to have to send in more women.

I see they had a triple killing out in Hollywood the other day. Two people killed each other in a shootout and an innocent person got killed in the process. Unfortunately violence like that happens all to often these days. What made this incident so unusual is the difficulty in finding an innocent person in Hollywood.

According to the news, the President VOWS to "tell the truth" on WMD's. And I believe him. They have already told us they knew they were there, somewhere.

And I think they will find them again, right after they locate Osama bin Laden, Saddam, Usay and Qusay Hussein, the Roswell UFO, the tooth fairy, the Lost Ark of the Covenant and Santa Claus whom we all know are there, somewhere.

Everybody seems to be leaving town. The Secretary of the Army has resigned and The General of the Army has retired and no one wants their jobs. The Army itself has gone to Iraq, Afghanistan and for all we know Timbuctu and isn't coming back for a while. The Secretary of Defense left town years ago, though his body is still here. The Vice President only comes out of retirement to vote himself tax rebates and then returns to oblivion. And the President is out to lunch. And yet the country survives. It must be the people. They're the only ones still here.

Justice in America seems to be taking some strangely oblique turns the last few years. It used to be that the Constitution said you were "innocent until proven guilty", then along came OJ and we moved to "innocent if the police were incompetent". Now with Laci Peterson it's going to be "innocent if the Devil was in the neighborhood". Where would we be without California lawyers?

Anybody watched any of those new shows like "The Bachelor" or "Joe Millionaire" or "The Survivor". Before they started calling it "Reality TV" we used to call it lying and fraud.
