Missed a day putting up my weblog which doesn't happen very often. Took time to "stop and smell the roses" and neglected my responsibilities. But too be honest, neglecting responsibilities is a lot more fun than being responsible. Probably explains it's popularity.

I've got the solution to America's Health Care Problem all figured out.

First we declare war on Canada. That should be easy. We're doing it everywhere else on the globe, besides they have stuff worth having which gives us a reason and we can actually communicate with them because they speak something close to American. And........ it fits the President's style of diplomacy.

Second. Lose. We've done that before too. In Vietnam, and everytime we ever invaded Canada before so we have a precedence. There are some heretics who might even go so far as to say we're not exactly winning anything in Afghanistan and Iraq right now either.

In any event, we have to lose so it's best to step one foot across the border, throw up our hands and sign the terms of surrender. That way no one gets hurt. In return for that we get an elected leader, good beer and the Canadian Health Care System. It's a classic win-win-win situation.

The only problem we have is finding an army to send because they're all already somewhere else.

The President has gone to Africa. Not the usual place for presidents to truck off to. Teddy Roosevelt did it once or twice but that was on a hunting trip after he left office.

The present occupant of the White House doesn't appear to be the hunting type so we are left to speculate as why he's gone foraging there which means there has to be a reason related to one of the big four. Money, politics, warfare or golf.

They do have some oil........but it's not ours, yet. We don't have any voters there.......yet, though voting American troops are standing by. They do have a war in Liberia with a whole raft of other African countries waiting in the wings with their own collections of conflicts to police....so the place has potential, but these all imply ulterior motives.

My take is it must be the golf. Makes sense. No crowds, no cameras and no one who knows how to keep score.

In case you haven't noticed the health care system in the United States is sick. While the price skyrockets, the delivery of services continues to degrade. No one seems to know what to do with the over abundance of HMO profit-driven managed care bureaucrats, the Bermuda based non-tax paying pharmaceutical corporations and the non-regulated health care insurance companies. Meanwhile the rest of us continue to get nothing for something. That's because the above named are giving part of your something to political slush funds to make sure that you continue to get nothing for something. After all, nothing for something is very profitable.

You used to hear "is there a doctor in the house". Now you hear "is there an insurance adjuster available to see if the patient has insurance and can be seen by the doctor and given aid for 15 minutes according to the HMO patient time rules while we decide whether or not his life saving drugs are covered under our co-payment plan". Might better just call for the coroner. It's cheaper, he'll get to you quicker and his diagnosis will at least be right.

Fourth of July is here. Probably my favorite holiday. I know what I'm celebrating and why. It's not overcommercialized, yet. The weather is warm and usually sunny, sometimes (remember this is New York). All I need is a barbeque pit, a six pack and some friends to come over so it won't cost me an arm or a leg to celebrate it (as long as I don't play with the fireworks). And it's the truly American holiday that won't go away as long as we don't go away which sort of gives you an incentive to stick around.

I keep starting the day thinking I'm not going to write anything in this blog about the President today and darned if he doesn't do something almost daily that I just can't resist. His latest "bring them on" statement to Iraqi terrorists in their homeland is just the latest example. Today ten separate attacks on our troops in Iraq and with the Fourth of July and the Presidents's birthday coming up no doubt our enemies had planned something anyway. Did he think his remarks would discourage them?

We are already losing ground in winning the minds and hearts of the people of Iraq. Why inflame them? I can only surmise that it's because the President's weekend warrior war experiences as a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War have colored his judgement.

I know. He singlehandedly held off the 1968 Vietnamese Tet invasion of Texas at that bar in Tijuana, but he was supposed to be flying his ANG plane that weekend. I'm also aware of his clandestine government operations against the Vietcong at that alchohol based establishment in Dallas in '67 (that he can't reveal because they were clandestine) but he was supposed to be flying his ANG plane that weekend too. And I'm sure he'd like to reveal his government activity against the North Vietnamese inspired San Antonio drug party of '69 but I hear his memory of the party is still "fuzzy", but again he was supposed to be flying his ANG plane that weekend. Maybe that explains why the Navy pilot had to fly him aboard that aircraft carrier in May. He was so busy fighting the war that he never learned how to fly. On the other hand he is right in pointing out that Ho Chi Mihn never took Texas.

Heard the President's speech yesterday about his education package called "Leave No Child Behind". He says every child will learn to read and do math so they can have a great future. Admirable, but as a poster child for reading and math the President is a bit shy in the credentials department.

Anyone who has heard him read one of his speeches he didn't write or tried to figure out the math he uses with his economic policies is left to wonder if he doesn't prove just the opposite. The man unfortunately can't get beyond a three syllable word comfortably and his "fuzzy" math calculations of borrowing billions from your grandchildren to give you a tax break so you can pay your state and local tax increases to cover the mandated federal programs like "Leave No Child Behind" sends your grandkids the bill for their parents education.

What he does prove is that if you aren't too smart, do mediocre in school, can't read and write very well and can't add it really doesn't matter. If you have money, powerful connections and are willing to do what's necessary to please the right people "they" will find a way for you to grow up to be President of the United States.

North Korea seems to be upping the ante'. We knew they were building nuclear weapons and are developing medium range missiles that could hit California. The latest from our government is that now the North Koreans are working to reduce their bomb size and fit them on the head of a missle. How novel. None of us would have ever figured that out if the government hadn't told us. We all thought they were building these things for Fourth of July fireworks displays.

The claim is they will be "ready" in a year which gives us a timeline for going in to North Korea????

Well if nothing else it will force us into hurrying up our exit from Afghanistan, Iraq, and probably Liberia (we should be in there by weeks end) or alternately speed up the legislation for their applications for statehood and make them pay federal taxes for their liberation. Hey, they got oil and diamonds and after all we once accepted Texas so anything's possible.

It's been said that politics and economics are like music and painting, they are more of an art than a science. Well if that's the case, our politics sound like an orchestra falling down an elevator shaft and our economics looks like an explosion in a paint can factory. Nobody's responsible, nothing seems to be working and no one has answers. Meanwhile the bill for all of this "compassionate conservatism" keeps going up. Is it possible that "compassion" and "conservative" have discovered they're an "oxymoron"?

Trouble in Liberia. That's a country on the west coast of Africa for those of you that hated geography. Anyway, it's having a civil war. Liberia's President Taylor, who unlike our president, is not elected by the Supreme Court but rather holds power through his connections with a powerful ruling elite, has asked for US intervention. The rebels have asked for the same.

Here we go again. More marines. It's not that I'm opposed to intervening but at some point with a volunteer military and the reserves taking the heat (figuratively and literally) in Iraq and Afghanistan and for who knows how long, at some point the question is going to be "do we have any left"?
