I keep starting the day thinking I'm not going to write anything in this blog about the President today and darned if he doesn't do something almost daily that I just can't resist. His latest "bring them on" statement to Iraqi terrorists in their homeland is just the latest example. Today ten separate attacks on our troops in Iraq and with the Fourth of July and the Presidents's birthday coming up no doubt our enemies had planned something anyway. Did he think his remarks would discourage them?
We are already losing ground in winning the minds and hearts of the people of Iraq. Why inflame them? I can only surmise that it's because the President's weekend warrior war experiences as a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War have colored his judgement.
I know. He singlehandedly held off the 1968 Vietnamese Tet invasion of Texas at that bar in Tijuana, but he was supposed to be flying his ANG plane that weekend. I'm also aware of his clandestine government operations against the Vietcong at that alchohol based establishment in Dallas in '67 (that he can't reveal because they were clandestine) but he was supposed to be flying his ANG plane that weekend too. And I'm sure he'd like to reveal his government activity against the North Vietnamese inspired San Antonio drug party of '69 but I hear his memory of the party is still "fuzzy", but again he was supposed to be flying his ANG plane that weekend. Maybe that explains why the Navy pilot had to fly him aboard that aircraft carrier in May. He was so busy fighting the war that he never learned how to fly. On the other hand he is right in pointing out that Ho Chi Mihn never took Texas.
