Channel surfing. I see on C-SPAN where Congress passed a vote declaring that the President has made the world safer. Meanwhile on CNN I'm looking at an 18 foot crater where a hotel used to be in downtown Baghdad. Then there's the video of what used to be Spanish trains on MSNBC. And over on Fox News we have gunfights, suicide bombers and rocket fire in the streets of Gaza City .
I guess what you see depends on where you sit, but I'm sure the rest of the world appreciates our Congress declaring their safety courtesy of our President. And that is why they will all be declaring their endorsement of President Bush for reelection...........next December.

Reverend Al Sharpton has dropped out of the Democratic race for President. That's not surprising seeing as how it was over weeks ago. Some think he should never have gotten into it in the first place and others will miss him and no one ever thought he had a chance anyway.

If nothing else he brought some entertainment to the process with his one liners and gave more than one of us some reasons to pause and reflect and perhaps that is what it should be about anyway. Unfortunately next will come the career change to public speaker/entertainer which may be what it was about to begin with. If you want paid advertising for your product one sure way is to pop your name up for President and then brace yourself for the news stampede. More than one person has got where they were going by marching in a parade they didn't need to be in.

Seems NASA has discovered another planet. It is something like a gazillion miles beyond that other sort-of a planet Pluto, only punier. They are going to call it Sedna which is the name of some Eskimo sea goddess. Seems appropriate since they both occupy the outer regions where no one with a non-frozen mind cares to venture.

I"m told in astronomy circles this is big news but for the rest of us, we can presume that the Sednans aren't coming here right away and we aren't going there at least until after we invade Mars so I guess for now all it's good for is Trivial Pursuit and more NASA funding.

The campaign wars have started already and we haven't even had conventions yet. Senator Kerry made some unflattering off the cuff and what he mistakenly presumed were off camera remarks about the integrity of Republicans in the administration yesterday. Administration Republicans want a public apology.

I think they should get one...........just as soon as Mr. & Mrs. McCain get one for what was done to them by the same people in South Carolina four years ago.....and you might want to throw in an apology from the President and VP Cheney to the reporter they insulted off mike a couple years ago. What goes around comes around and whining because someone took a page out of your playbook and used it on you isn't going to generate sympathy but it will bring back old best forgotten memories.

I see on the news where the Republicans are already running an ad against John Kerry accusing him of having money. I suspect they are using some of the President's $100 million plus campaign fund dollars to tell us the truth about Kerry's money, which is that he has some.

Next week we'll see their pro-Bush ads showing where Humble George was raised in a log cabin in Kennebunkport, sold the "Grit" newspaper door to door as a youngster to help support his family along with pictures of Lt. George in uniform defending Alabama from Vietnamese invasion. This new "Reality TV" show's going to have about an 8 month run so stay tuned. Next week's episode: George strikes oil out behind the outhouse".

The primary is over and the "real' campaign has started and within months there is going to be this upswell of complaints that we aren't crazy about either candidate. Always happens this way. If we were running George Washington against Abraham Lincoln within a matter of weeks we'd be saying "isn't there anyone else besides these two?"

I think it's the way "WE" think. Somewhere "WE" all have an ideal candidate that "WE" think would do an incredible job if the people would just ask "US" to take the job. Unfortunately, "WE" didn't get the nomination and the folks that did don't know what "WE" know, which probably explains why all of us are where we are.

The town of Killington in Vermont has voted and it wants to secede from the state and become part of the state of New Hampshire. The reason is Vermont's tax policies. Now there's an idea that might catch on and it might not be a bad idea if Vermont's legislature let them go because it would set a precedent and free up some space.....

See, if it caught on here in New York State there would be no New York State because we'd all vote to secede and become part of Vermont.

The campaign is winding down with Super Tuesday tomorrow. It is going to be a letdown afterwards no matter how you look at it.

Kerry will probably walk away with the nomination and then have eight months to try and keep us interested in all the things George Bush has done wrong, is doing wrong and will do wrong. This at a time when we're all trying to forget all the things George has done, is doing or will do.

Yesterday there was an interesting election in Kentucky's 6th Congressional District otherwise known as safely Republican & Bush Country. Seems a Republican seat had to be filled and a strongly pro-Bush Republican candidate with "money to burn" from the national coffers "lost"............. to a Democrat .......... by 12 points!

If you want to get their attention in Washington, blowing things up or declaring war on the United States is nothing compared to beating one of the faithful in a "safe" election district. You can almost assume that the National Guard will be pressed into service to man the polling booths before the powers that be will want to let this happen again.

If this is any pre-cursor of the Fall elections, we may have an easier time finding Osama bin Laden and Al Quaeda come next November post election day than we will finding George Bush and the Republican Army. In politics you can plan and work and spend and campaign but nothing succeeds like the failure of your opponent.

The fall election seems to be shaping up as the battle between Bush and Kerry over who was the better un-veteran.

Kerry implies Bush took the easy route, used his influence and skated through his Air Guard duty because he didn't want to participate in the government's war in Vietnam.

Bush implies Kerry came back from his Navy duty in Vietnam and turned renegade ala "Rambo" and attacked the government and said we shouldn't be in Vietnam.

They seem to agree. We shouldn't have been in Vietnam. OK, so why did they both vote to send our troops to Iraq?

Maybe because, like Vietnam, it was there, it was coming to get us and........................ we need to create future generations of un-veterans who could run for president? Makes as much sense as anything else I've heard lately.
