MULTIPLE CHOICE

The administration says we are bringing democracy to __________ (fill in blank). (Vietnam, Iraq)

The method we are using will be the army. The route will be that an American designated government is going to take over the country at the end of June. Our army will stay to insure that the democracy we install doesn't fall to insurgents. The President ( at a news conference from his ranch in Texas) says the country is getting back to normal and we should be prepared to stay for a long time. The natives are shooting at us. We need to send more troops.

Sound familiar?

Exciting times in Iraq. Having been liberated from Saddam Hussein the Iraqi's are working their way towards a democratic government in June by shooting their guns in the air, a traditional way of celebrating in the Arab world. After all, with desert everywhere, what are you going to hit.

This past week they have been practicing for the pending celebration by shooting at each other, setting things on fire and rioting. They don't seem to be too particular about who they celebrate with. Sunni's are shooting at Shiites, Shiites are shooting at Kurds and everybody is shooting at the Americans.

This summer we may well be able to celebrate our Independence Day while observing the democratization of Iraq's Civil War.

"The Donald" as Donald Trump likes to call himself is running around New York City firing young apprentices in front of the tv cameras as an abject lesson in how to be as successful as "The Donald" is. His name, according to him, is synonymous with big business and big wealth and success.

He fails to mention the airline with his name on it that he flew into the ground in the 90's, the Atlantic City casino's with his name on them that almost went under about the same time and are about to go under again. Nor does he mention the bankers and investors who haven't fired him because they're financially in so deep they will go under with him.

So if you want to learn the real lesson of how to make money by "The Donald's" rules, ask "The Donald" to borrow some of his money that he borrowed from other people and can't pay back and see if "The Donald" lets you play in "his" game.

Well it's April Fool's Day. Here in New York we celebrate it annually by not having a state budget in place. This time it's the 20th year in a row.

It's hard to figure out what the governor, the state senate and the assembly are arguing about. They ran out of money years ago. Now they are only deciding how to spend the money their grandkids (who will be elsewhere by then) will have.

This year they have a solution. Since they can't meet an April 1st deadline, they want to move the budget deadline date to July 1st. That way we can have another holiday called July Fools Day. Only in New York.

Well the news is in on who made all the money last year. According to the Fortune 500 it's in oil, banking and drugs. Now isn't that a revelation.

For those of you who invested in unflavored toothpaste, horse collars and AM radios, my condolences. Personally I was betting on wine, women and song on the premise of being where I thought the money went. Apparently another loser, at least with the investment folks.

It would seem the boys that are making the cash on oil, in banking and by peddling pharmaceuticals prefer having their fun at our expense.

Well the stock market is doing the roller coaster thing again. First it's down, then it's up, then it's down again. It's like watching a butterfly with the hiccups.

Of course our adult fascination with the stock market is the same one that draws young boys to loaded guns, young girls to little red sports cars and gamblers to a poker game. We do it for the thrill of the unknown, the belief that we are masters of our own fate, the desire to flirt with danger and ...... the money.

And once you buy stock the key to making money is to hold it long enough for for the stock to go up and then you sell it. Of course, the key to not losing money is if it don't go up, you shouldn't of bought it.

National Security Advisor Condi Rice has told the 9-11 Commission to take another hike. She'll talk to them behind the scenes but nothing in public, all of which is bewildering. She's already been on every news and cable show except Wrestlemania telling us nothing and what she claimed to know wasn't worth knowing.

Maybe that's the problem. She doesn't know anything. That would fit the Cheney Administration pattern. He's installed a president who doesn't know anything. Why would he want to surround him with people who do?

The new buzzword is "Outsourcing". That is where American companies send American jobs to other countries where they pay
non-Americans to do the jobs that Americans used to do because they do not have to pay American wages and American benefits.

In turn the company will then sell their products back to the unemployed Americans who will buy the product with their unemployment checks supported by the taxes they can no longer pay because they are unemployed and the taxes that are no longer being paid by the corporation that has moved its headquarters to Bermuda to avoid paying taxes.

Sounds like "bush league economics" to me.

It's political trip time again. Whenever the heat gets to be too much in the kitchen, Presidents take off on a political junket to change the subject, deflect criticism and display their "World Leader" skills. It seems to be that time.

The 911 Commission is hearing the Bush Administration botched the job. Condi Rice is now hiding out in Dick Cheney's hidden bunker. The stock market is falling. The government is out of money. Jobs are dropping in rates not seen since the Depression and those American jobs that are being created for the American Indians are for the Indians that never left India. The Humpety Dumpety called Iraq is starting to fall apart before we ever got it put together and everyone is shooting at everyone else in Israel, Afghanistan, Haiti and Kosovo. Oh, and there is an election in the Fall, the numbers don't look good and Sen. Kerry is calling them liars and screwups.

So the President has decided to go somewhere else to spread his message and impress the American people with his leadership skills. Someplace where there is no conflict. Somewhere that he believes will restore his reputation as a "uniter not a divider", someplace that is peaceful, calm and will welcome him with open arms. He has chosen to go to........ France?

Appears the Mars rover has concluded that there was an "ocean" on Mars at some point in time, that it was salt water and that it was at least two inches deep. It is gone now which will be a disapointment to the developers. All that beachfront property and no two inch ocean to frolic in.

Of course the real purpose of these trips is to find signs of life.
Few expect to find signs of intelligent life. After all, we Americans claim that prize exclusively for ourselves. Any other intelligent life would go there once, take a quick look, think they were in Texas and move on. We go there once, envision condos, plant the flag and return each year for Spring Break. That's intelligence. Our President says so.
