It's back. Congress has approved the Patriot Act and sent it to the President for his signature. That's the act that's designed to protect us from spies and terrorists by spying on everyone and locking them up without due process whether they are guilty or not.

And how will you know if it's working or not?

You won't. That's because you won't know about anyone who is a spy or a terrorist because they are locked up without due process for doing things we can't talk about because it's a secret. This will make you safer.

As the President says, "Trust us. Nobody here knows anything about nothing so it must be working".

Don't get me wrong here, I don't favor Iran getting nuclear toys, but the President making the argument that Iran can't play in the nuclear playpen because they don't play by the rules while at the same time he's selling nuclear toys to India because they don't play by the rules means.....there are no rules. Unless, that is, Iran wants to buy their nuclear toys from us.

Well I gave things a one month break to see if the government could pull things together. Let's see how they've done.

Tom Delay took a hike just ahead of the posse and the Republicans put in his understudy as a "reform" measure. Dick Cheney mistook his friend for either an insurgent or a dove and shot him. Michael Brown of FEMA/Katrina fame now appears to have "understood" more about what was going on than the President who fired him did. The President meanwhile is outsourcing parts for our tanks and airplanes to the same guys (Dubai) who he wants to be insourcing "who knows what" into our ports and harbors, all in the name of security. He should let them know we also have some airlines going on the cheap that they might be interested in.

Meanwhile our leader has trucked off to India to give them more nuclear toys as a reward for ignoring the rules about nuclear toys. From there he goes to Pakistan to see if he can stir up the masses and destabilize the other nuclear power in the region.

In Iraq, December's democratic election has progressed to it's next logical level of democratic civil war. The schools we built in Afghanistan are all being burned by the folks we built them for. The Taliban that we said was gone, isn't. They're back with a chip on their shoulder.

The "No Child Left Behind" program results are in. We are leaving children behind by the stateload. The Federal Government has sued the State of New York and threatened to invalidate elections because they don't want to abandon an election system that has worked for years to replace it with one that can be hacked into becoming a red state.

However, to be fair, some things are up. The deficit, the debt, inflation, interest rates, illegal aliens and casualties in Iraq to be specific. Other things are down. Sales of American cars, products being shipped out vs. products coming in, the President's poll numbers, the vice Presidents poll numbers and people who hail from from New Orleans.

But there is hope on the horizon. The hurricane season is just months away which could mean more urban renewal. We have run out of troops to send to Iraq, we also ran out of the money to pay for them several years ago but no one wants to admit it...... yet, the President isn't in the country which is a godsend, the vice President is missing in action and Carl Rove is incognito. Michael Chertoff is in charge of the country.

All we need is a stock market scandal to complete the drama. Anybody want to wager a bet?

Tom Delay is gone so the Democrats get their wish, or do they?

Considering they had the biggest target since Hiroshima sitting in the Congress they may wish he hadn't left quite so soon.

As for the Republicans, it's damage control time. Having sold most of the country for votes to the point that we're out of money it's time to pull out their conservative card and start preaching fiscal responsibility again. In other words it's time to take stuff from those least able to stop them. Like poor people, college students and the elderly.

In other words, it's Compassionate Conservative time again.

The State of the Union Address is over and what most of us learned is you can be arrested, handcuffed and led off to jail in Washington, D.C. for wearing a t-shirt if the President doesn't like it...... Even if you have an invitation to the event as a guest from a Member of Congress. That was a new insight.

That's what happened to Cindy Sheehan, mother of an Iraq War military casualty and anti-war protester when she went to listen to the President speak.

That seemed to be the news for the night. Oh, and the President mentioned New Orleans, which means he thinks it's still there. That was new too.

He also mentioned the war. He says we are winning. He said that last year too. The year before he said we'd already won. I think he needs to find a new theme. .........How about fixing Social Security?

The long awaited Filibuster to stop Judge Alito from joining the Supreme Court fizzled and busted. I figured it would.

Democrats for all their good arguments and issues can't seem to put it together and generate any valid threat. That's because at this point they aren't one. The few that speak up are old war horses and the few that are new aren't speakin up or taking any risks. End result is mute and skittish riders on old horses.

Might be better off letting the Republicans have their way. Considering their track record of successful plans or programs completed, that's the best argument I've seen against them.

It's easy to spout negatives when your after something. It's usually something else entirely when you get it.

Exxon Mobil Just announce their biggest profits ever. "Hello". That's news?

"News" would be if they didn't.

That should be a good "lead in" to the President's State of the Union Address. I can hear it now.

" My fellow Americans. We have cut your taxes and given them back to you so you could invest them in an Exxon Mobil product. That way the money in this country can get to where it really belongs. Oil men, like me......Remember stay warm, drive a lot and buy fuel. Just like war, it's good for the economy."

The President seems to be falling in the polls again. That was bound to happen. Been nothing to bring him up.

So now it's time for the State of the Union Address. That's where the President gives us all a pep talk and decides what he's going to focus on during the next year. Considering that everything he's focused on in the past has become a failure we're about to see what the term "kiss of death" means.

This years failures to be? Gas prices, health care, social security, the economy and Iraq. How do we know they will be policy failures. Because they're the same ones he tried last year.

Having failed to get anyone fired up over his crusade the fix Social Security by giving your social security money to private investors for "safeguarding" and having gotten everyone fired up by his failure to make his crusade in Iraq work, which was supposed to be paid for with money from Iraq'a oil instead of money from your pocket, the president now has a new crusade.

He is going to fix health care. And how is he going to do that you say?

Why by giving everyone a tax break that buys private health insurance. That will help all the people who can afford it to begin with. It will give them more money to spend somewhere else. It has nothing to do with health care but it will make them feel better and isn't that what health care is all about anyway.

And as for those that don't have health care to begin with because they can't afford it? This program will serve as an inspiration for them to work harder and get a better job so that they too can someday buy their own health insurance, get a tax break and feel better too.

This is also referred to as "Voodoo Economics Meets Health Care 101".

The Senate is calling for action on Iran. Seems they think the Iranians are building a nuclear bomb. Probably are. Everyone else does so it's not like it's something new. Once they get it they get to join America's "nuclear target of the month club" which I might add is not an enviable position to be in. After all we have enough spare "nukes" to incinerate the world about ten times over. Iran would take about 15 minutes.

But the call in the Senate is to stop Iran now by negotiations if possible or military action if necessary. We used to assume that meant airstrikes. Under the Bush Amendment to the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine it seems to mean invasion. Sooooo.......

All we need is more soldiers, armor, equipment, money, a plan to liberate the Iranians from the Iranians and the support of the American people for more nation building in another middle eastern desert where we can get more oil to pay for a war because someone might have a weapon of mass destruction. Sounds like a gameplan to me.

Any volunteers?
