Republican Congressional Leader Eric Cantor graced us with his presence at a news conference today to plead for support for stopping violence against women, providing the legislation meets his undisclosed prerequisites of course.  Apparently he has been chosen as the Republican spokesman for the party on this issue.

Not the smartest choice considering Cantor's track record on women's rights.  Sort of like designating Joseph Goebbels (German Propaganda Minister during WWII) to speak on behalf of Nazi compassion for the European Jews.

Appears someone in the Republican Party just discovered that about 90 or so years ago Congress gave women the right to vote and he (the women have known this all along) just figured out that they aren't voting Republican.  In another 90 years they'll discover that Cantor was not the person to send to make nicey- nice with the girls either.

The Republican Party (all versions of it) are suffering an identity crisis.  Seems Carl Rove , the mastermind of the Bush presidential elections and architect of the present Republican Party coalitions has decided he doesn't like what he has created.  Dr. Frankenstein had the same problem.

The party now has many heads.  There are the  traditional "monied people" who were fiscally conservative, except when the government was sending them money, and the Tea Party, who are also fiscally conservative but believe the government shouldn't have their money to give away in the first place.  Then there are the Religious Right who believe politics and religion make great bedfellows and the money should be printed and given to them so they can distribute it better than the government and make us all pure in the process.  Incidentally, none of the above want any taxes.

Seems the only thing that holds them together is everybody wants the money.  Trouble is....there is no money.   Good Luck Carl.

Saw a headline in the paper today saying, "Republicans plan to re-think their Strategies" in light of their losses this last November.

They still don't get it.  They don't need to re-think their strategies.

They need to re-think their thinking.

The election is over ....finally.... and the President is re-elected.  Personally I had thought it was because of a smart campaign strategy and intelligent positions on the issues.  Today I learned I was wrong.

Mr. Romney revealed in a press conference today that the President won re-election because he sent all of his supporters "gifts".  This is truly disappointing because I haven't received my "gift" yet.

Perhaps it has been lost in the mail.  It would help if I knew what the "gift" was.  So far I have not been able to find anyone who will tell me what they got or even if they got it, whatever it is.

Perhaps Mr. Romney has a better "gift" or at least he could tell me what I was supposed to get that I didn't get....yet.

This buying elections is a marvelous idea.  Too bad he didn't think of it first.

Down in Florida the latest political issue is the "stand your ground" law, which essentially says that if you "feel" threatened you have the right to use deadly force to defend yourself.  The result has been the Trayvon Martin tragedy where a 17 year old youth, Trayvon Martin, wearing a hoodie, drinking ice tea and eating skittles is purported to have attacked a gun carrying community watch person, who incidentally does not live in the community, and forced him to use deadly force.  Trayvon did this assault while talking to his girlfriend on his cell phone.

According to people in the community Trayvon stopped screaming for help after the gunshot.  George Zimmerman, the vigilante who shot him, and who was told by the police to stay in his car and not to confront the boy, is arguing self defense.  The only witness to the attack by Trayvon on George Zimmerman is....the person who shot and killed him, George Zimmerman.

Obviously this is a great law because it allows people to defend themselves and stop crime before it starts.  What is unfortunate is that Trayvon did not have his Smith & Wesson with him because he could have shot George first and rightly argued self defense.  For this law to work well it implies that everyone be armed and vigilant.  In this case, all 17 year old black teenagers and any other potential criminal.

Better to be jailed for an illegal gun charge and alive than innocent and dead.

The hermit republic of North Korea celebrated its equivalent of our 4th of July with a launch of the worlds biggest Roman candle and true to its design it blew up right on schedule.

Appears now that was not part of the game plan.  Apparently it was supposed to go into orbit and launch a satellite and intimidate the rest of the world into believing they could deliver their one nuclear warhead to Topeka, Kansas.

Assuming they ever do reach that capacity they will have one, we still have 5,000 and ours work.  Their other problem is they may starve to death first.

The Republican are debating.....again.  They're now over half a dozen debates and just at the beginning.  Between now and election there is a Super Bowl, a dozen national holidays and two World Series.  And the more they debate the nuttier they get.

Mr. Cain has already lost 90 points by going from a 999 economic program to a 909 program.  Rick Perry can't talk without swallowing his tongue.  Michelle Bachman needs to read a 9th grade history book and Mitt Romney still thinks corporations are people.

If they can flush a toilet they're a people.  If they can't they're either a dog or a corporation.  Not that hard to figure out Mitt.

Only in America.  The drama continues in Washington.  House Speaker Boehner finally passes a resolution that is DOA in the Senate and White House and he knew that up front.  Next the House is going to vote down a psuedo Harry Reid Bill in the House before the Senate even votes on it just so the House won't cast the last "No" vote before the President should invoke the 14th Amendment.

Meanwhile the rest of the world (literally) thinks our Congress has taken leave of their senses.  This all boils down to about 80 Tea Party Congressmen who are holding the country and the world hostage.  Why? Because they can.

Take them out of the equation and we wouldn't have been talking about any of this.  Which also gives us the solution on how to avoid this problem in the future.  Unfortunately we have to wait 15 months for an election.

Watched Speaker Boehner on tv last nite.  He explained how not increasing taxes would free up more money for business which would create more jobs.  He also explained that cutting the budget would create more jobs.  He did not explain how this works.

The Bush Tax cut did create more jobs.....In China, but It threw our economy into decline in the process.  Outcome:= fewer US  jobs.

If you take money away from the government, it has less money to hire the people that do government jobs or privately contract with the government.  If they don’t get paid, they don’t work. Outcome =  fewer US  jobs.

I think I’m beginning to understand the problem and it is worse than I thought.  Republicans can’t do math.

The saga continues.

Speaker Boehner is no longer available for calls from the President of the United States and the debt ceiling limit delimma has lost another day.

Republicans want no revenue increases period.  Considering that between 2001 and 2008 they controlled the Presidency, the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Supreme Court and a better than fair share of the state houses and governorships their position is a bit hypocritical.

Having given the Bush Tax Cut for all of those years to produce fewer jobs than when they started, having extended social programs like Bush's Medicare Prescription Program without raising the revenues to pay for it, having fought two unfinished wars financed on a non-existing Master Card and having driven the economy from a deficit reducing surplus under Bill Clinton to a staggering national deficit and borderline Depression at the end of the eight Bush years I'm not sure these are the guys you want to solve your problems.

It's a lot like having the Vandals that set your house on fire showing up with a gasoline truck and telling you they are the fire department come to save your house.
